CRA Hot Rod Camp #8 July 4-11, 2010 Held at GOODGUYS Nationals in Columbus, Ohio
July 12, 2010
CRA Family and Friends,
What a great year for CRA Hot Rod Camps Int'l. It's with a feeling of sadness that we have ended the season for 2010. We can hold close to the joy, blessings and fellowship that we shared this year forever. CRA Hot Rod Camp #8 completes the 2010 schedule. As I reflect back on Camp 7 & 8, "WOW" what a great group of young men. We are truly blessed to share in the lives of the teens that God has entrusted us to teach, not just how to build a vehicle, but how to build the foundation for a great life.
The Columbus GOODGUYS event is always special to us; this is our third build at these events and each time it gets better. We have an opportunity to share the blessing of CRA Hot Rod Camps with many observers as we work on the vehicle at the event. God is doing an awesome work with these camps and in changing the lives of the young men involved as well as the CRA builder/leaders.
As I think of the comment stated by one of the campers "You really meant it when you said it's about us (the boys involved in the camp) and not the vehicle". The build is important and it introduces these young men to a hobby and industry that is family oriented. However, the one thing they can take with them and use forever is the tools to build a good foundation for a great life as a good husband, father, friend and leader, using Christian values to guide their decisions and give direction to their life.
We built a beautiful Downs Manufacturing '37 Ford pickup and once again the crowd went wild as we drove through the awards on Sunday at the Goodguys event. The campers should be proud of what they accomplished in such a short time. That moment will stick in their minds for a long time, and our prayer is that the other life lessons taught will stick with them forever.
I want to thank everyone for making these CRA Hot Rod Camps possible. Larry, I am proud to stand with you in leading these camps. I also want to thank the builder/leaders; Rick, Randy, Kevin, Carl, Buck, Bob, and Gary, you guys are such a blessing, and we thank you for the time you give to the Camps. Thanks to all the wives that cook, pray and assist in making these camps possible; the people that work behind the scene in support of the camps; the many vendors and sponsors that contribute; and especially to Goodguys Rod & Custom Association for allowing us to be a part of the event in Columbus and other locations around the country. A special thank you also to Brown Road Church for allowing us to use their church facilities for housing the boys and cooking the meals and Classic Resurrection for allowing not only their shop to be used for the first half of the camp build, but also for the beautiful paint job on the '37.
Our motto will never change "Building Cars-Changing Lives", that's the mission God gave us and we will continue on that path.
Luke, Chris, Tommy, Lucas and Steven, never forget the foundation for a successful life is Christ. Thanks for sharing your lives and part of your summer with us.
May God's blessing be with you.
"Building Cars—Changing Lives"
