CRA Hot Rod Camp #9
July 3-10, 2011
Held at GOODGUYS Nationals in Columbus, Ohio

July 2011

CRA Friends & Family,

Here we are at the end of another season for CRA Hot Rod Camps, Int’l.  At the end of each camp we always say “Wow! what a great camp”.  Those words ring true each time and CRA Hot Rod Camp #9 was no exception.  We had eight of the greatest teen boys you could ever put together for a camp.  They arrived on Sunday afternoon and within an hour all of them were sitting around talking as if they had known each other for years.  It was great to watch the bonding take place and friendships develop.

This is the fourth year that Goodguys Rod & Custom Association has allowed us to be a part of their “Nationals” event.  We are so appreciative that they have given us the opportunity to share CRA Hot Rod Camps with the tens of thousands of people that attend their event in Columbus Ohio each July.  What a great place to assemble a car and introduce the campers to the enjoyment of a National Custom & Street Rod event and the hobby of Street Rodding.  Thank you Goodguys for your support of our CRA Hot Rod Camp program.

This was a special project for us; we were blessed by the generosity of David Smith of Factory Five Racing.  Dave provided us with one of their ’33 Hot Rods for Camp #9.  The car turned out great and is “FUN” to drive, did I say FUN to drive, with its LS1 engine and 6 speed transmission.  The campers loved working on the car and were very proud of their accomplishments.  Dave, thank you and the staff of Factory Five Racing for all your support.

As I mentioned above, what a great group of boys we had.  Every year we say it can’t get any better yet, it does.  Each camp is unique in its own way.  This year the passion, leadership, maturity and compassion for others from the young guys was overwhelming.  We as builder/leaders come together at each camp to share our life experiences with the campers in hopes that this will help direct their lives.  This year, as in other camps, I think we learned as much from them as they learned from us.  If the young men that were part of CRA Hot Rod Camp #9 is a representative sample of the future leadership that is coming up in our country then we should be pleased.

The mission of CRA Hot Rod Camps, Int’l is to introduce young men to the family hobby of street rodding and instill in them the foundation of a good life.  This is a life where you can be a good husband, father, friend, leader and community member.  That foundation comes from a relationship with Jesus Christ.  I’m reminded of the plaque in my office that states, “GOD is with me, who could possibly stand against me”.

I want to thank Larry Wagner for his dedication to the CRA Hot Rod Camp program.  What a great group of builder/leaders, Rick, Carl, Randy, Kevin, Buck, Lane and our reliable weekend builder/leader Steve, you guys are the greatest.  It is an honor to work beside you at these camps.  We can never forget all the wives that provide not only the food but their prayers and support always.  Ladies, thank you for all the support that you give us as well as the great food.  As always we want to thank Brown Road Community Church for providing housing for the boys and a great kitchen for food preparation.  Additionally we want to thank Joez Rodz for the beautiful paint job, thanks Joe, Kevin and Larry for your help and support.

The CRA Hot Rod Camps is a mission of love for the youth of today, we all give of our time to accomplish what our motto says, "Building Cars—Changing Lives".  We could not accomplish this without the support of many companies and individuals.  Our heartfelt thanks to all the sponsors and contributors of CRA Hot Rod Camps Int’l, we couldn’t do it without you.

Beau, Darrell, Jericho, Jerrod, Brad, Nick, Garrett and Levi, thanks for sharing a small piece of your lives with us at CRA Hot Rod Camp #9. Our prayer is that you will recall the things taught during our week together.  We want you to be the examples of what it means to be a great husband, father and leader.

Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.   1 Timothy 4:12 (NKJV)

May God's blessing be with you always.

"Building Cars—Changing Lives"
